My Commitment to Our Community -Delivering on my 5 point plan

1. Bring St. Catharines issues to Ottawa; not bring Ottawa excuses back to St. Catharines.

2. Work to toughen our laws to ensure St. Catharines is a safe place to live. We need minimum mandatory sentencing -- punishing criminals does not require a 2 billion dollar long gun registry.

3. Help restore integrity, ethics and accountability back into the House of Commons.

4. Work with municipal and provincial government representatives to help implement a new Economic Plan for St. Catharines, a plan that includes federal tax relief.

5. Demand that St. Catharines gets its fair share of federal spending.

In 2006 I ran against Jeff Burch, then the NDP Candidate. Jeff is a great guy who has done a lot for St. Catharines. Here is what he has to say about me, my efforts on behalf of St. Catharines, and why he is prepared to support me in my ongoing work as Member of Parliament:

"Rick Dykstra has demonstrated that he is committed to working for the people of St. Catharines. He works with representatives at all levels of government regardless of political parties. I worked with Rick to secure funding for the cleanup of federal canal lands in Merritton, which will soon be returned to productive use. With Rick Dykstra in Ottawa I know the people of St. Catharines have someone watching out for their business"
- Jeff Burch, Merritton City Councillor

It's quite the impressive little project. I saw it on my way in to the office because I had to take a detour from one of our main streets going to the downtown.

Why the detour you ask? Well, more road reconstruction of course!!

Refugee reform roadblock

Tuesday, June 8th 2010: 09:15am

Byline: National Post

The biggest impediment to refugee and immigration reform in this country is the federal Liberal caucus. That has always been the case, but their backbench's obstinacy became even more glaring with the collapse last week of a bipartisan deal between the governing Tories and the main opposition party ...
